We collect personal information primarily directly from you when you: create an account, use the will-writing wizard, make a purchase, or contact support. We may also collect limited technical information automatically through cookies and similar technologies (see the Cookies section below).
5. Suitability Check Before You Start
Before you create an account or enter will details, we may ask a short set of suitability questions to confirm whether the service is appropriate for a straightforward will. If the service is not suitable based on your answers, you will not be able to proceed and we do not create an account or store will-related personal data for that attempt.
6. How We Use Artificial Intelligence
We use AI only to assist with:
- Structuring your inputs into a will document
- Providing guided explanations during the will-writing process

- Legal obligations
- Legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, service improvement)
9. Data Retention
We follow a data-minimisation and limited-retention approach.
a. Will Content and Drafting Data
This includes will questionnaire answers, beneficiary/executor details, drafts, and AI-assisted drafting outputs created during your use of the wizard.
We do not retain copies of your generated will document. Once your will document has been generated and made available for download, we do not keep a copy of the final PDF. Your will drafting data (the information you entered) is retained so you can return to edit or re-download your will, until you choose to delete it.
You may delete will-related data manually at any time via your account settings (Account → Data & Privacy). Once deleted, will data cannot be recovered. You are responsible for downloading, securely storing, and backing up your will document.
b. Account Information
We retain limited account information (such as your email address, account credentials, and consent records) for as long as your account remains active.
Deleting will data does not automatically delete your account. Your account may remain available so you can create new wills in the future. If you wish to close your account, please contact us using the details in the Contact Us section.
c. Legal and Financial Records
Certain records (such as payment metadata, where applicable) may be retained longer where required by law (for example, UK accounting obligations). We do not store your full card details; payments are processed by our payment provider.
10. Sharing Your Information
We only share personal data with trusted third parties that are necessary to operate the service, including:
- Supabase (database storage and authentication)
- Resend (email delivery)
- AI providers (e.g. OpenAI) for AI-assisted content generation
- Payment providers (where applicable) to process payments (we do not store full card details)
We do not sell your personal information. Third-party providers are required to process data securely and in accordance with data protection laws.
11. Sharing Information Outside the UK
Some of our service providers may process personal data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as UK adequacy regulations and/or approved contractual safeguards (for example, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement), in accordance with UK GDPR.
12. Automated Decision-Making
We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making (including profiling) that produces legal effects or other similarly significant effects on you.

- Correct inaccurate information — Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Request deletion of your data — Request deletion of personal data where applicable
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability — Where applicable, request transfer of data you provided to us
- Withdraw consent where applicable
To exercise your rights, contact us at: privacy@familywill.co.uk
14. How to Delete Your Data
You can delete your will-related personal data through your account:
- Log in to your FamilyWill account
- Go to Account → Data & Privacy
- Click "Delete All My Will Data"
- Confirm by checking the acknowledgement and typing "DELETE"
What gets deleted:
- Will questionnaire answers and drafting data
- Beneficiary, executor, and guardian information
- Addresses and personal details used for the will
- Generated documents created within the service (where stored)
- AI-assisted drafting outputs
What is retained: Your login account (email address) may remain active so you can create new wills in the future. Payment metadata may be retained to meet statutory accounting obligations.
